Ensuring the Safety and Reliability of Electrical Power Systems

Dan Hook, CBS Field Services, NETA PresidentColumns, President's Desk, Winter 2024 Columns

As we approach the end of another successful year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the achievements and challenges that have defined our industry.

This past quarter, we had the privilege of hosting the inaugural Electrical Power Innovations Conference (EPIC), and I’m thrilled to report that it was a tremendous success. EPIC brought together leaders, innovators, and professionals from across the electrical power sector, providing a dynamic platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and exploring new technologies that are shaping the future of our industry. I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who attended, presented, and supported this groundbreaking event. Your enthusiasm and participation have set a solid foundation for what we hope will become an annual tradition.

As we celebrated these achievements, we were reminded of the vital role our industry plays in times of need. Severe weather events served as a stark reminder of the importance of reliable, resilient electrical infrastructure. Our members have been at the forefront of recovery efforts, working tirelessly to restore power and ensure safety for affected communities. Your dedication has been instrumental in helping communities recover, and I want to acknowledge and thank you for the critical work you’ve done. Moments like these highlight how essential our mission is — ensuring the safety and reliability of electrical power systems.

Looking forward, this edition of NETA World brings exciting insights on a variety of topics, including a special focus on solar testing. As renewable energy continues to expand, so too does the need for unique and rigorous testing methods. Our featured articles explore the complexities of solar testing and the innovations that are driving this sector forward. From ensuring performance standards to meeting safety requirements, the growing field of solar power offers a fresh set of challenges — and opportunities — for our industry.

Let’s carry the momentum from EPIC forward and continue to innovate, collaborate, and lead the way in powering the future. I am confident that, together, we can navigate the challenges ahead and make a lasting impact. Thank you for your continued support, hard work, and commitment.

Warm regards,

Dan Hook, President
